Belgrade's Underground: A Short Primer

Belgrade’s music identity was never going to be built on one genre, and that’s the point. The same city that gave EXIT Festival its regional gravity also runs a year-round underground of splav clubs, basement techno rooms and DIY hip-hop nights that rarely make it into a guidebook. What ties it together isn’t sound, it’s attitude — a scene that plays loud, stays late, and doesn’t much care whether anyone outside Belgrade is paying attention.

That self-sufficiency is exactly why it’s worth paying attention to. Local labels press their own vinyl, promoters book their own rooms on the river, and the crowd shows up on a Tuesday the same way they would for a headline slot. RUN BGD covers this beat the way it covers everything else in the city — from inside the room, not from a press release.
